Pathology offersdiagnoses by testing samples which came from various clinical divisions. These diagnoses are helpful for deciding treatments and determining prognoses of patients.Through the close relationship between pathology specialists andeach clinical division, they exchange information about patients and introduce some new tests for quick and accurate diagnoses. In addition to the normal tests, molecular biological assays such as immunohistochemicaland immunofluorescence tests, DNA flow-cytometrytests, In-situ-hybridization tests, and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) are performed for offering more accurate diagnoses. In cytotechnologiccases, there was an introduction of Thin-prep technique and HPV-DNA chip analysis is used.Gangnam Severance HospitalPathology uncovers the cause of death by autopsy of fetal and neonatal bodies.

 

Major clinical accomplishments

  • 3-D conformational radiotherapy in 2003
  • One-stop caner examination and treatment system with the introduction of electronic medical record system on July 1, 2006.
  • Minimization of rectal complications using the rectal ballooning technology developed at the department for radiotherapy of prostate cancer.
