The information regarding pathologic diagnosis is provided by the department of diagnosis pathology on specimens obtained from surgeries and biopsies in various fields of clinical medicine and the specimens obtained for cellular examination. This information is crucial for the treatment and prognosis. By closely working with different fields of clinical medicine, diagnostic pathologists exchange information regarding the patient quickly and introduce new testing methods for fast and accurate diagnosis. Other than conventional methods, immunohistochemical stain, immunofluorescent method, DNA flow-cytometry, In-situ-hybridization, and various molecular biologic methods such as PCR are used at the department for the provision of accurate information. For cytology, the thin-prep method and HPV-DNA chip analysis are utilized. One of the other important tasks of the department is autopsy of the deceased who died from diseases, mainly fetuses and newborns.
