As the body structure of Korean people is westernized from social and economical changes, the incidence frequencies of serious cardiovascular and endocrine diseases are increasing. The Severance Hospital Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine try our best so that patients with high risk factors and various associated diseases can safely get major operations with much difficulty. Also, various anesthesia methods and monitoring devices are used to meet with the needs of patients who desire to have more precise operation and smaller scar while using endoscope and/or robot. Pains upon an operation are widely known to affect adversely to human body such as cardiothoracic and vascular system and endocrine system in addition to the fear of pains. Our department has actively applied various after-operation pain killing methods to aged people and children as well as general adults and they have responded positively to our efforts.

In addition to such medical treatment activities in operating rooms, we are also operating the pain clinic of helping to kill various acute and chronic pains and the hyperhidrosis clinic. Doctor from the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine stay in the intensive care unit for 24 hours a day and check the cardiothoracic and respiratory functions regularly.
