Nuclear medicine is a specialized field of medicine that diagnoses, evaluates and treats the anatomical and physiological status of body by using radiopharmaceuticals.
The Department of Nuclear Medicine, equipped with a large number of advanced medical instruments, is performing various medical treatment and research projects along with the SPECT device of diagnosing cerebrovascular disease and heart disease, checking the existence of bone metastasis by cancer, whole body bone scan for treatment evaluation, and various other instruments for examining kidney, hepatobillary system and thyroid function test. Especially by using PET scanner the key of modern functional imaging field, our department plays a decisive role in diagnosing various cancers at an early stage, determining staging of diseases and treating them.
Also in the field of treating diseases by using radioisotope, our department treats hepatocellular carcinoma and dermatological cancer by using Ho-166, thyroid cancer and hyperthyroidism by using I-131, and bone metastatic cancer by using Metastron(Sr-89). In addition to these, we are actively conducting various studies on the field of brain and nerve and on the development of molecular imaging techniques and relevant medicines.
