Introduction

Clinical Trials Center of Severance Hospital, Yonsei University Health System (YUHSCTC) was designated by the Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare in 2005 as a Regional Clinical Trials Center. The center was granted the government fund for its establishment and operations, in addition to the contribution from Seoul City and 9 pharmaceutical companies.
The ultimate goal of YUHSCTC is to improve medical care for the patients through enhancement of world-class quality clinical research activities under the mission of YUHS – i.e., with the love of God, free humankind from disease and suffering. The center will lead new drug development globally as well as domestically in collaboration with industry and regulatory bodies. In the conduct of clinical trials, we are ensuring that the studies are done in the most ethical and scientifically sound ways to protect rights, safety and welfare of study participants.
The newly renovated center opened in Feb, 2006, in a 27,900 sq ft space, with the state-of-the-art facilities and equipments, specialized personnel, and efficient layouts designed for the most effective support and conduct of all clinical studies done in the hospital. The center functions to cover the wide spectrum of clinical development, such as systematic support of specialists, administrative processes, technology, scientific consultation and research subject protection. At the same time, the center has strength and expertise in specialized fields of clinical development such as the capability for early phase trials as well as development and application of pharmacometrics.
YUHSCTC will give the best to meet the needs of the society, academia as well as industry, and in compliance to government regulations and international guidances, for the improvement of the health and welfare of the mankind.
