Division of Pediatric Hematology Oncology

Division of Pediatric Hematology Oncology

Blood Disorders and Childhood Tumors : As the first in Korea to subspecialize in the hemato-oncology field, our clinic is a leader in both research and treatment of leukemia, aplastic anemia, and thrombocytopenia. The treatment of pediatric cancer patients began in 1975 at the Yonsei Cancer Center, which was also the first specialized Cancer Center in Korea.

Bone Marrow Transplantation and Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Transplantation : Our Division performed the first successful case of allogenic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in Korea (1981). The clinic has an excellent success rate with these specialized therapies performed in various childhood malignancies such as leukemia, brain tumors, neuroblastoma, and aplastic anemia. In addition, the Pediatric Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Unit opened in 1997 and expanded in 2006 with 4 isolation beds for transplantation and 4 sub-isolation beds to prevent infection after bone marrow transplantation.
