Inpatient Admission Information

Thank you for choosing Severance Hospital to serve your healthcare needs. While a hospital stay is not desirable, we hope to make your visit as comfortable as possible. Below are a few instructions on admission to the hospital.

Admission Procedures

You will be contacted by staff from Administrative affairs on your admission date who will inform you of your admission time (usually 3:00 p.m.) and location.

Rooms

Patients will automatically be provided with a private or semi-private room, which include a bathroom, small refrigerator, lockable wardrobe, and personal phone. Rooms are provided on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you wish to change rooms , please notify your ward nurse and a request will be made.

You are allowed to have visitors in the hospital and are kindly requested to have a family member or guardian (e.g. friend) accompany you at all times during your stay in the hospital. While this is not mandatory, having someone to assist you during your hospitalization will help to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Cots are provided for one guest under each patient bed. Private rooms have a sofa that extends for sleeping.

VIP Rooms , located on the 20th floor, are provided upon request. Please speak to an International Health Care Center Staff Member for more information.

What to bring

Towel, toothbrush/toothpaste, drinking cup, slippers with good grip, change of clothes, and a small amount of cash (Woori Bank and ATMs are located on the 3rd floor of the main hospital).

If you are assigned to a private or VIP room, amenities (i.e. soap, wash cloth, slippers, toothbrush, and toothpaste) are provided upon request to the ward nurse at check-in.

During Your Stay

When going outside of your room, please ask your nurse to lock the room and take any valuables with you. During your stay in the hospital, you may keep your money at Woori Bank after making an account.

Rounds by the hospital staff will be between 7a.m. and 10a.m.

Please raise the side-rails to an upright position to avoid any accidents or falls from your bed while sleeping.

Severance Hospital is a non-smoking facility . Smoking is strictly prohibited within the hospital.

Please follow the nurse’s instructions regarding use of the microwave, blinds, air conditioner, bed side-rails, and emergency call buttons (located by bed and in bathroom).

Each bed has its own phone line. To make a local telephone call , first press 9, then the number you would like to dial. To make a long distance or international call, press 0 for the operator who will assist you in making your call. (Outgoing phone calls are only possible in private and semi-private rooms)

Bed sheets and patient gowns are provided in the morning every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. If you wish to change your bed sheets or gown outside of these times, please inform your nurse. Dirty pajamas should be discarded in the white plastic bag located in the sanitation room.

In case of a fire , please follow evacuation instructions given by staff. First extinguishers and water hoses are located on each ward for emergency use.

Base room temperature is set at 25 degrees Celsius. To adjust temperature, please use the manual dial (turn right to increase temperature and left to decrease). Temperature should adjust and be displayed on the LCD screen in 10-20 minutes).

Please throw any medical wastes (used bandages, bloody tissues, etc.) in the designated container (square-shaped box with orange lining) located in your room.
